The most useful book on art restoration (as well as forgery) I have found.

Though Booksamillion sells a paperback version, I wanted the high quality old fashioned illustrations in the original edition. To me
it is worth a few bucks more.
Most good forgers come from experience in rehab and restoration; when you work with work from previous decades and centuries,
the kind of knowledge Hebborn provides is essential.
Combined with Tom Keating's UTube demos and other similar video guides, it is possible now to have a chance of not screwing
up an old painting or drawing that needs loving care in order to survive.

If you can find one cheap you are making an investment and learning a lot. What more else can you ask for?

I can't believe that I got a soft cover copy of this amazing book. A really great read if you're a painter and want to test out new methods of artwork. It takes you back in time and teaches you the secrets of the great masters. He also points out how art supplies have involved over the years. From using chalk for white and charcoal for black. He talks a great bit about the forgeries and how the art world really is shaddy at times. The guy who wrote it Eric Hebborn, was a real jerk for what he did during his lifetime. He was beaten to death in Italy by a mob of unhappy people once the story broke he had been forging these works. There is a lot to be learned in this book and if you can find yourself a copy for under $50 than you should grab it up quick. This book goes for an incredible price. I saw many online in the $200-300 range. You are making an investment and learning a lot. What more else can you ask for?

Wonderful book!

I am an artist as well as an Arts Administrator and this book is great! It not only addresses old Master's paintings and art history, it covers formulas and techniques that are essential knowledge for any one in the arts, (even art forgers) ;)...
If you are a student of the arts, I would highly recommend this book for you. It is a lot of information, so be prepared to read!
Well worth the price!
