“I’m trying to meditate one day but urgent thoughts keep intruding. Don’t forget to take cupcakes to school! I have to prepare for my presentation for the wellness conference! Is that lunch with the other moms tomorrow or next week? My to-do list is stampeding through my mind, trampling any chance of tranquility. I feel overwhelmed, yes, but there’s more: I feel…guilty. Guilty that I’m taking on too much, guilty that I’m not doing anything well, guilty that I’m giving short shrift to my kids, my husband, my job. And what about you, Mallika? a quiet voice asks. How are you shortchanging yourself?”
Living with Intent is a chronicle of Mallika Chopra’s search to find more meaning, joy, and balance in life. She hopes that by telling her story, she can inspire others with her own successes (and failures) as well as share some of the wisdom she has gathered from friends, experts, and family along the way—people like her dad, Deepak, as well as Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, Arianna Huffington, Andrew Weil, and Dan Siegel. She also provides a practical road map for how we can all move from thought to action to outcome. Each chapter is devoted to one step on her journey and another piece of her INTENT action plan: Incubate, Notice, Trust, Express, Nurture, and Take Action. Chopra’s insights and advice will help us all come closer to fully living the lives we truly intend.

For The Select
By gale
Living with intent is much easier when you're not worried about some serious life issues like putting food on the table. An example from this author is, "downloading" movies on her kids iPads before travelling adds to her stress level. Another example, she spontaneously decided to take a week at an expensive fitness retreat, for herself. It's difficult for me to identify with someone who has enough financial blessings that they buy iPads for their children and can go to an expensive retreat, for herself.
Living with intent when the decisions in your life are food, rent, heat or medicine. Or, how to keep your children safe while living on the "wrong side of the tracks".
Obviously this book did not reach me on the deep level I had hoped for. But for financially secure folks that can actually be there to pick their kids up from school instead of praying for good tips today, it could be helpful.

Conscious Living
By William McPeck
Life can be lived on autopilot or with intent. In this memoir, Mallika Chopra (daughter of Deepak Chopra, M.D.) shares her trials and tribulations with her decision to live life with intent.
Living with intent requires making a conscious choice to do so. But just because you make the choice, there is no law or rule that says life will be easy. In fact, living with intent requires making the conscious decision daily, as it is easy to slip back into autopilot mode.
Chopra uses the book to provide the reader with a roadmap for how to get from thought to action to outcome. Each chapter reflects a step in her journey and a piece of her INTENT action plan – Incubate, Notice, Trust, Express, Nurture and Take Action.
Using her story and the stories of others, Chopra hopes the book motivates and inspires the reader. She also uses the book to promote her business, Intent.com.
Living with intent is all about being awake in the present and off autopilot. The present is the only phase of life we can actually manage if we choose to. Living with intent is slowing down enough to actually pay attention.
A definite plus in the book are the Intentional Living Reflections and Practices and Intent Practice sections at the end of each chapter. The book also contains a number of self-discovery tools the reader can take advantage of.
In his Afterword, Deepak Chopra, M.D., reminds the reader that “messiness, chaos, confusion, turmoil and pain and suffering are part of the journey.” This easy to read, engaging book gives us a glimpse into Mallika’s journey.
If you are interested in living with intent, Mallika’s roadmap is worth reading.

A well balanced read with perfect doses of perspective, knowledge, life experiences and actionable tools.
By Roma Khetarpal
I really enjoyed this book and learned from it. It is a well balanced read with perfect doses of perspective, knowledge, life experiences and actionable tools. Mallika Chopra has done a great job in mapping the action steps through the word INTENT : I - Incubate, N - Notice , T - Trust, E - Express, N - Nurture, T - Take Action.
With the hectic lives that we are all living having the convenience of "Reflections and Practices" at the end of each chapter/step and an at-a-glance cheat sheet at the back of the book is brilliant! This really makes referring back to the main lessons simple. Definitely a fresh outlook on the importance and benefits of planting intentions in our daily lives.
