From Booklist
Sookie Stackhouse is having man trouble. Her vampire boyfriend, Bill, has been distant and inattentive lately. Then he announces that he is going on a business trip, which clearly is more than it seems. After a werewolf tries to abduct Sookie at work, Bill's boss, Eric, tells her that Bill fell under the sway of his--Bill's, that is--ex, a sexy vamp named Lorena, and has been kidnapped. Eric wants Sookie's help in getting Bill back, and despite her hurt over Bill's betrayal, Sookie agrees to go to Jackson, Mississippi, to find her wayward lover. Eric has persuaded Alcide, a dashing werewolf, to get Sookie access to Josephine's, aka Club Dead, the local hangout of Jackson's supernatural element. In between dodging kidnappers, the advances of amorous Eric, and her growing feelings for Alcide, Sookie has to find out who kidnapped Bill and figure out a way to rescue him. With some droll touches--Elvis, now a vampire, is Sookie's faithful guard --Club Dead is ideal for readers who like their vampire fiction light, humorous, and fast-paced. Kristine Huntley

Review
Praise for #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse novels

“It’s the kind of book you look forward to reading before you go to bed, thinking you’re only going to read one chapter, and then you end up reading seven.”—Alan Ball, executive producer of True Blood

“Vivid, subtle, and funny in her portrayal of southern life.”—Entertainment Weekly

“Charlaine Harris has vividly imagined telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse and her small-town Louisiana milieu, where humans, vampires, shapeshifters, and other sentient critters live...Her mash-up of genres is delightful, taking elements from mysteries, horror stories, and romances.”—Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

“The series continues to be inventive and funny with an engaging, smart, and sexy heroine.”—The Denver Post

“Blending action, romance, and comedy, Harris has created a fully functioning world so very close to our own, except, of course, for the vamps and other supernatural creatures.”—The Toronto Star

The further adventures of Sookie Stackhouse
By Steven Peterson
Waitress in a bar, telepath Sookie Stackhouse and her vampire boyfriend Bill appear to be continuing their romance nicely. Bill is working on a special project that attracts the interest of major league vampires (although this project turns out to be, from my perspective, kind of small potatoes--not seemingly worth the trouble that it triggers). Bill disappears. Bill's boss Eric sends her off to Jackson (Mississippi) where she teams with a werewolf, Alcide.

With her telepathic ability, Sookie is to go to Club Dead (a vampire bar, needless to say) with Alcide (who is to protect her). Murder follows her first efforts to find out if any of the humans at the bar know anything about Bill's whereabouts.

In time, she locates Bill, imprisoned and being tortured in the home of the head of Mississippi's vampire community. Sookie finds him, "stakes" a female vampire who had once been Bill's lover. Indeed, he returned to her, betraying Sookie, and found--ultimately--that she had been a lure to get Bill into the clutches of boss Russell Edgington, the king of Mississippi. Sookie conceives of an almost unbelievable plan to rescue Bill (the idea stretches one's credulity!). There are some other plot twists and turns (again, some quite improbable--such as the rescue of the dim vampire, Bubba).

As the book ends, we wonder what the future holds for Bill and Sookie and what her next adventure will be. The book moves quickly, is quite readable. The reader ends up caring for Sookie. The plots and events in this book leave one wondering how readers will suspend their disbelief over unlikely events--but it works!

Another winner!
By Carole M
I have a real problem with Charlaine Harris! I like everything she writes. I finish one book and pick up the next. I am going to feel very lonely when I finish. I will miss all the vampires, shifters and Sookie.

The best one yet
By Michael Haywood
The plot is the most interesting of the series so far because it provides a better in-depth look at the vampire world and the supernatural world in general that the previous books did not offer. The characters also benefit from the plot as well. The main characters become more like-able, The newly introduced characters are very like-able as well, and the sub-characters have a bigger presence as well. The villains of Club Dead are the best the series has to offer so far.

The biggest flaw of the book is would involve Sookie's relationship with Bill. There is a certain graphic act that happens between the two of them that is sort of brushed off in this book as if nothing happened. Also, similar to the previous books, feature quite a few annoying and pointless details that are really unneeded.

Aside from that, It's been a pretty solid book overall and is by far the best in the series.
